What can Glebe residents can expect over the next months in regards to the Park at Lansdowne? We saw many of the Park’s attributes prior to the snow falling, but construction has continued on several important features throughout the winter.

The Glebe Parks Committee (GPC) is the only one if its kind in the City of Ottawa — find out how to volunteer with efforts in park maintenance, park designation and funding, as well as hot topics like dog waste disposal, the “adopt-a-park” program and potential post office box locations.

An Urban Park to Serve the Whole City

So far, the evident construction activity at Lansdowne has centred on the parking garage, commercial buildings and the new south-side stands of the stadium. We should remember that a positive aspect of Lansdowne redevelopment will be the transformation of acres of lifeless asphalt into parkland.

The mighty Ottawa River flows past our doorstep. The water we drink comes from, and our waste water goes back into, the Ottawa River watershed, including three great rivers, their tributaries and wetlands: the Rideau in Ontario, the Gatineau in Quebec and the interprovincial Ottawa River. A December joint announcement by over 30 local associations calls for reforms in Ottawa’s land-use planning process and for clarification in the City of Ottawa’s relationship with the development industry. Initiative for the joint announcement came from the Hintonburg Community Association and similar groups across Ottawa were invited to join in. Simultaneously with the joint release, the Glebe Community Association (GCA) issued its own statement supporting three of the four points raised in the joint statement.

A comprehensive safety analysis and report on Glebe Central Park East that led to significant improvements to the park with no additional financial cost to the community has resulted in a 2012 Community Safety Awards nomination for an Ottawa organization.
